The Inaugural Annual Stephen Lawrence Criminal Justice Lecture
With the announcement on 18 May 2011 that there will be a retrial in November of this year one way or another 2012 will be a significant year for those of us who are interested in creating a lasting legacy for Stephen Lawrence. It will also be 13 years since the publication of the Macpherson Report.
Regardless of the outcome of the retrial the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust will pursue its vision to have as much impact in the realm of social justice as the Lawrence case has had on the criminal justice system by providing access and opportunities for people from disadvantaged backgrounds, especially minority ethnic and white working class young people.
Having established a track record of successful delivery in architecture, awarding nearly 100 bursaries and having now seen our eighth beneficiary qualify as an architect, the Trust is seeking to widen the scope of its employability programs during 2012 accessing other under-represented professions including criminal justice related professions.
Each year the Trust holds its Stephen Lawrence Memorial Lecture. Previous keynote speakers have included His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. Next year we are inaugurating our annual Criminal Justice Lecture and we are delighted to announce that Lord Boughton will be our keynote speaker. The event will be held on Monday 20th February at Freshfields. For more information contact paul@stephenlawrenc.org.uk
